Audio does not playback on my device

April 27th 2011: Important Notice for iOS 4.3+ users: Please make sure you've updated to Jump Desktop 4.0 - it has a fix for an audio problem on iOS 4.3 devices.

For audio streaming to work you'll need to make sure you're connecting to your PC using the Windows Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Please note: RDP is not supported on Windows Starter, Home and Home Premium editions of Windows.

First make sure you are connecting to your PC using RDP open Jump on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch and then tap the blue arrow next to your PC's name. Make sure the connection type is rdp. If the connection type is vnc then you will need to run the Jump Desktop Configuration Wizard on your PC and select Windows Remote Desktop in the initial screen.

Audio streaming to your device is enabled by default when you add a new computer using the RDP protocol. If you can't hear audio on your device try these steps:

  1. Check if audio streaming is generally working: Do this by logging into your PC using Jump and sliding the volume slider in the system tray (usually on the bottom right hand corner of the screen). Hearing bell sounds while you slide means that audio is working correctly, skip to the next step. If you can't hear audio make sure Jump is configured to play audio on your device: Open Jump on your device and tap the blue arrow next to your computer's name. Tap the Edit button and then tap the Audio row. Make sure audio playback it is set to play on iPad / iPhone / iPod.
  2. If you can't hear audio for a specific application, try closing it and starting it again. This is generally not a problem for most applications however web sites that use Flash to play audio may encounter this issue. You can work around this by closing all web browser windows on your desktop and re-opening up the website.
  3. This only applies to users who have modified their copy of Windows Home, Home Premium or Starter to allow Remote Desktop: Not being able to stream audio is a known limitation with the modifications available on the net. If you come across a solution for this, please contact support.
  4. Windows Server 2008 R2 users only: You need to explicitly turn on audio redirection support. Take a look at how to do this: here.

Choppy audio

Audio streaming works best over 3G or your local Wifi network. If you''re experiencing choppy audio streaming try these steps:

  1. Make sure your network connection is fast enough: If you are streaming using WiFi, double check to make sure you're on the same network as the PC you're streaming from. Although it's not necessary to be on the same network to stream audio, it does help reduce audio choppiness. If you are mobile, try to make sure 3G is enabled.
  2. Try to minimize screen updates while you're playing audio: Minimize the media player or website while you stream audio. Each screen update requires additional bandwidth which may have an impact on audio streaming quality.

This is absolutely useless and not helpful answer. I will have to rate your app 1 star if you cannot come up with a solution for this

Shahzad,

Audio playback currently requires the RDP protocol. RDP is only available on Windows Ultimate, Professional, Enterprise or Business editions of Windows. You might be running Windows Home edition.
