This article will teach you how to use Jump Desktop's video out feature on the iPad.

Requirements

To get started you will need the iPad VGA out cable. You can purchase the cable from the Apple store.

Connect VGA out

Connect the VGA out cable to your iPad and projector or monitor input. Make sure your projector or monitor is turned on.

Next, connect to your PC. You'll see a monitor icon appear in the top toolbar. This tells you that Jump Desktop has detected your monitor and is ready to start outputting video. This icon is not present if the VGA out connector is not connected to your projector / monitor.

Start output

To start video output tap the monitor icon and then tap the green button.

Control video output

You can pause video output by tapping the monitor icon again and then tapping the pause button. When the output is paused the image on the monitor will not be updated to match your iPad's screen (it will remain still). To restart output, press the monitor button and press play. To stop and disconnect the projector, simply unplug the cable or press the red stop button.

Screen options

You can configure the projector's display resolution by tapping the 'Screen Options' row. Use the 'Stretch to fit' option if your projector's resolution does not match your connection resolution. For best quality we recommend you connect to your PC using a display resolution of 1024x768, and set the projector's resolution to 1024x768. Jump Desktop sets the projector resolution to 1024x768 by default when you turn on video output

.

Pointers

Customize the pointer you see on the external display by tapping any of the pointers in the video out menu. Tap the 2nd pointer from the left if you want to completely hide the pointer.

Will this work with the iPhone 3GS too? If not with the 3.3.x version, will it work with the upcoming 4.x version?

iPhone 3.x does not officially support video out. Official support for video out on the iPhone will be available when iPhone OS 4.0 comes out.  We'll support this feature on the iPhone then.

Will this work with component or composite out video cables to go to a standard TV?

Yes, this works with component / composite cables. However, for maximum clarity we recommend using the VGA out cable (you get the best resolution with the VGA cable).

Does this work with the iPad 2 HDMI/Passthrough cable?  If so what is the difference in resolutions between this and the VGA cable?

Also wondering if the HDMI adapter will work with jump desk. I wouldn't want to buy one and then not be able to use it...

@Andrew @Berk : Jump doesn't have any limitations on the maximum possible resolution that it'll show on the monitor / TV. It'll work with whatever resolution the iPad 2 (or future iPads) can offer.  I believe the iPad 2 supports up to 1080p with a HDMI adapter - which I believe translates to 1920x1080.

You won't see the toolbar icon on your iPhone, but you should see it on the iPad. Are you sure the toolbar isn't minimized? While you're connected, look for a rectangular translucent icon at the top center of your iPad's screen and tap it to reveal the toolbar.
