These steps will show you how to manually configure your PC for remote desktop access. For most users we highly recommend automatic configuration. It's very simple and takes no more than 5 minutes to setup: http://www.jumpdesktop.com/go.

For complete remote desktop access you will need to know your computer's public IP address. We'll use your computer's public IP address to connect to your PC when you are away from your local Wifi network. A dynamic dns client will help you keep track of this. We recommend using DynDns - it's quite relaible and also free. The following steps will show you how to apply for a DynDns account and install the DynDns client on your PC. You can use other dynamic dns service providers if you like.
Users with static IP addresses: You can skip the Dynamic Dns section and go straight to port forwarding. Note: Most residential users have a dynamic IP address and will need to complete the Dynamic Dns steps below. Only skip these steps if you are sure you have a static IP address.

1) Enter a host name for your PC. This can be anything you want (alphabets, numbers and hyphens are only allowed in the name)
2) Select any domain name
3) Make sure Host with IP address is selected
4) Click 'Your current localtion's IP address'. This will automatically fill in the IP address field.
Go to the next page and create your account. Make sure your account is activated (click the activation link in the registration mail).
Download the DynDns update client from here (click the Download Now button): https://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/
Once the download is complete run the setup package and install the client.

Once installation completes, the DynDns Configuration wizard will run. Enter the DynDns account user name and password which you just created. Once you're logged in, you'll see the hostname you created in the last step. Make sure the name is checked. Then click Apply and then click Start Updater.
Next we'll need to configure your wireless router to send incomming remote desktop requests to your PC. First, we'll need your PC's IP address.
Click Start and then click Run. In the text box enter : cmd.exe and press Okay. A black window will popup. In that window type ipconfig and press Enter . Your IP address will be the row starting with IPv4 Address or IP Address. Make a note of this, we'll need this in the next step.
Next you'll need to visit your router's administration page and manually forward port 3389 to your PC's IP address. The steps to do this vary for each router model. Portforward.com has a comprehensive list of step-by-step instructions for quite a few router models. First, make sure you know your router's exact make and model then go to the Portforward.com's Remote Desktop Port forwarding page. Click on your router model for step-by-step instructions on how to do this. Important: Use the IP address from the last step when entering the destination IP address of the port forwarding.

We're nearly done:
1) Open Jump Desktop on your iPad / iPhone / iPod and tap the + button on the top right hand corner.
2) Enter the full DnyDns hostname you created a few steps earlier here. Alternatively, if you have static IP address enter the address here.
3) Tap Save.
4) Go back to the main jump screen and tap the newly created entry to connect. If everything is done right, you should see your PC's login screen.
Congratulations!
