Jump Desktop on the iPad has several controls that are useable in all input modes.
- Keyboard toggle
- Disconnect
- Show/hide the menubar
- Zoom out so the whole desktop is displayed
- Gesture settings
- Keyboard toggle
There is also a seventh icon that appears on the menubar when your iPad is connected to VGA display.
Jump Desktop on the iPad has three ways to input mouse gestures.
STANDARD
Standard uses the basic elements associated with a traditional multi-touch user interface: pinch or spread two points to zoom in or out and tap to click. Because Jump Desktop is a remote desktop client, and most desktop displays are quite a bit larger than iPad's display, there are some additional things to know to efficiently work remotely:
click | tap |
double click | double tap |
right click | long tap or two finger tap |
left mouse drag | 2 quick taps and drag (don't lift your finger up after the 2nd tap - like on a trackpad) |
scroll wheel | two finger vertical swipe |
zoom | pinch |
quickly show or hide keyboard | three-finger tap |
![]() |
Tap and slide inside the circle for precision mouse positioning and clicking. |
![]() |
Show the Keyboard where you can access arrows, a number pad, function keys, and other auxiliary keys. (More on Keyboard input and special key combinations) |
LOCKED SCREEN
Locked Screen mode disables zooming, and locks the whole desktop in place. Here are the functions that work in Locked Screen mode:
click | tap |
double click | double tap |
right click | long tap or two finger tap |
left mouse drag | 2 quick taps and drag (don't lift your finger up after the 2nd tap - like on a trackpad) |
scroll wheel | two finger vertical swipe |
quickly show or hide keyboard | three-finger tap |
Pan around the desktop | three-finger swipe |
![]() |
Tap and slide inside the circle for precision mouse positioning and clicking. |
![]() |
Show the Keyboard where you can access arrows, a number pad, function keys, and other auxiliary keys. (More on Keyboard input and special key combinations) |
PEN
In Pen mode, movement of the mouse cursor is done with the equivalent of the left mouse button held down, as though you've triggered a left mouse drag. You may find this input mode more useful coupled with a capacitance pen for finer-grained control over the location of the mouse cursor. The following functions work in Pen mode:
click | tap |
double click | double tap |
right click | long tap or two finger tap |
scroll wheel | two finger vertical swipe |
zoom | pinch |
quickly show or hide keyboard | three-finger tap |
Pan around the desktop | three-finger swipe (works in both RDP and VNC mode) |
![]() |
Show the Keyboard where you can access arrows, a number pad, function keys, and other auxiliary keys. (More on Keyboard input and special key combinations) |
Note: The Mouse Circle for precision mousing is off by default in this mode, however it can be turned back on if desired.

it's not working. i see the screen i can move the mouse on my i pad but its not letting me open anything or click anything....keyboard isn't doing anything neither
@Eric thanks for the explanation - this helps. We'll look into this. Generally we've seen that Jump's default (Portrait) is most appropriate for most RDP setups. Thats said, we're also exploring 'on the fly' resolution changes with RDP connections which will let you switch from landscape to portrait (it will require a disconnect and reconnect, but Jump will automatically do that for you).
using iPad and Jump Desktop to RDP into my MacBook. MacBook has OpenVPN (not available for iOS) which is needed to link into work server. Jump works great except right click feature. When running an application like GE's Centricity, the right click gestures flash the blue ring (from a double tap or long hold) but it does not perform the right click function.
Anyway you could just add a button to the top (maybe in place of one of the two keyboard buttons) to perform right click function?
Hi, I have found that Siri Dictation does not work with your app, but it does with iTap application. Copy Paste is enabled in my settings, let me know if there is some secret way to enable that feature. If I open a text doc on RDP server, and open the keyboard, and use the Mic button, no text is passed to the text box. Thanks
@Rob When connecting to Macs Jump sends a Ctrl+Left click for a right click. It seems like GE's Centricity doesn't support Ctrl+Left click. We'll add an option in the next update that lets you send true right clicks to Macs.
@Clifford - Siri dictation not working - this is a known issue with Jump 4.0.6. This should be fixed in our next update (we already have it working in our beta releases). Please hang on for the fix.
Hi there - awesome product for me so far. But it would be very useful and far more easy to control, if it'd be possible to scroll horizontally left and right (with two finger swipe). Thanks.
@Jim - thanks for the suggestion. We'll look into adding this.
@Tim thanks for the suggestion. We'll look into adding tap-to-click.
@Eric can you tell me a little more about the 'Auto screen size' option? What does it do?
Thanks.
(Fixed the spelling mistake for you)
We'll add it to the feature list. Though, it'll only hide the mouse cursor and not actually effect any functionality. Are you sure you're not expecting different functionality?
With touchPad mode for android you'll be the greatest !!!!
Btw guys - we've implemented right click drag + middle click + middle click drag in the latest Jump Desktop 5.5 release.
Using just the RDP protocol, connecting to my mac (using my iPAD) the scroll does not work.
Hi,
Any chance of the "Locked Screen" mode on Android/Kindle Fire?
I am trying to control a program on my Mac that has on-screen faders (vertical sliders) and it is annoying that the screen keeps scrolling out of the way when I get to the end of the fader, but if I resize the view to use less area they are hard to control.
hi, just got the jump desktop everything going well exept my full screen icon on top right does not work.
Hi, certainly the best RDP app out there, just need one more feature for iPad stylus pen usage, please add popup palmrest to block out palm as I've seen other programs do. I use for product for medical records and really need this feature, thanks
There is no right click drag? that would be very helpful for the software I use and Windows in general. A great addition would be a small mouse icon on the screen and you could use that instead of the circle (obviously with an option to go between the two).
@James: Can you please open up a support ticket? This might be related to a VNC server issue we're currently tracking. Also, if anyone else sees a similar problem please open up a ticket by emailing support@jumpdesktop.com
@Mark: No right click drag at this point. We'll add this in a future update - along with middle button drag.
Hi, i connected my iPhone 4 to my laptop with no problems. This is using a gmail account. All I would like to know is: How do I connect and use my iPhone and see everything change on the laptop?
Because everytime I connect on the phone the Laptop locks. Do I need to change a setting?
Thank you
@Hennie, you need to enable Jump's 'screen sharing' mode. Try re-running the Configuration Wizard:
