Dell laptop users who have the WLAN 1390-1394 or 1490 Wifi adapter installed on the their laptops may see a black screen after entering their credentials on the Windows logon screen. This article will help you diagnose and fix this issue.
- First make sure you have the 1390-1394 or 1490 adapter installed on your system. Right click Computer or My Computer and click Properties. Windows XP users: click the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Vista & Windows 7 users: Click the Device Manager link.
- In the Device Manager window expand the Network Adapters node. If you have the DELL WLAN 1390 or DELL WLAN 1490 listed under Network Adapters please follow the next steps otherwise stop now.
- To fix the issue you will need to uninstall the Dell WLAN Utility or Intel Proset wireless utility and let Windows manage your network settings. Uninstall the DELL WLAN Utility or Intel Proset wireless utility by opening the Control Panel and clicking Add / Remove Programs.
- Once you remove the DELL WLAN Utility or Intel Proset wireless utility, setup Windows to connect to your wifi network. You can do this by clicking the wifi adapter icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and following the on-screen instructions.
