windows server 2012 essentials install FAIL

I've been attempting to install JumpDesktop on a fresh install of windows server 2012 essentials, and am running into a failure when the service try's to start.  I have tried running as administrator via RT click and through the installer properties.  I have also tried setting the compatibility mode to win7 and lower.  No success.  If anyone else has encountered this and found a workaround, any info would be greatly appreciated.
