KVM and iOS on screen keyboard

Using QEMU KVM for linux VM's and the on screen iOS keyboard doesn't map correctly, tried everything (changing the keyboard map everywhere) but nothing works.  If I want to access a Shifted key like a bracket, then not only do I have to press the built in iOS shift key, but I also have to press the jump desktop provided shift key.
