Airplay to Apple TV results in cropped picture

I connect to MacOS (15.5, M2 Max) from iOS (18.5, 15PM). I then use Airplay to cast my iOS screen to tvOS (18.5, 4K Gen3). In doing that, all the edges of the remote screen (MacOS) are cropped on the TV. The only way to get to see the full screen is to toggle one of the options (don't recall the name currently), and then I'm left with this small desktop screen in the middle of my TV with giant black gutters all around: imagine a 75" TV where only about 30" of the TV is used in the middle. That means I can either used a cropped experience where I can't see the toolbar or the Dock on MacOS, or I can see them just barely in a small box in the middle of my TV screen with giant black borders.
