A small but frustrating UI issue with Jump Desktop on iPad
I spent quite a while trying to figure out how to sign out of my Jump Desktop account on the iPad.
I tried Manage Account, went through the web account interface, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. None of those actions gave me an obvious way to sign out or switch accounts.
Eventually, completely by accident, I tapped the email address displayed under “Jump Desktop Account.”
And there it was: Sign Out.
The problem is that there is absolutely no visual indication that the email address is an interactive control. No chevron, no button, no menu indicator—nothing.
After roughly 40 years of designing and working with graphical user interfaces, my instinct was simply:
“I wonder what happens if I click this?”
That is how I discovered it.
This seems like a very easy UI problem to fix. Add a chevron (>) beside the account name, label the item Account, or simply provide a visible Sign Out option.
I really like Jump Desktop, and the remote-access experience itself has been excellent. This is simply one small UI issue that caused far more confusion than it should have.
A good GUI function should be intuitive, not something the user finds by accident or has to dig through a thousand pages of instructions to discover.
