Jump Desktop Connect requires certain macOS permissions to provide a secure and seamless remote desktop experience. Each permission ensures that you can fully control your Mac from anywhere, while maintaining privacy and security. Below is a detailed explanation of each permission required by Jump Desktop and why it’s necessary.
Important Note: Starting from macOS 14.0 and later a new permission is required for unattended remote access. The permission is called Remote Desktop permission for unattended remote desktop. Existing Users: If you’re upgrading from an older version of Jump Desktop Connect and are on macOS 14 or later, the new permission assistant will automatically pop up after installation to guide you in setting up the correct Remote Desktop permissions.
Screen Recording (Required)
Screen Recording permission is required to capture and stream your Mac’s display to the device you’re connecting from. This permission is essential for you to remotely see and interact with your Mac’s screen. Without this, you won’t be able to view your Mac’s screen during a remote session.
Control Mouse and Keyboard - Accessibility (Required)
Accessibility permission is required to control your Mac’s mouse and keyboard during remote sessions. This allows you to fully interact with your Mac as though you were sitting in front of it. This permission is strictly for controlling input during remote desktop usage. Without this, you won’t be able to control your Mac remotely.
Remote Desktop Permissions (Required only on macOS 14 and later)
Remote Desktop permission is required starting with macOS 14 to enable unattended remote access. Without this permission, you risk losing remote access if macOS revokes screen recording or prompts for re-authorization periodically, leaving your machine inaccessible when you’re away.
Microphone Access (Optional)
Microphone permission is required to stream your Mac’s audio to your remote device. This allows you to hear any desktop sounds during your session. However, this permission is optional—if you choose not to allow it, you will still be able to control your Mac remotely, but you won’t hear any sounds.
How to Grant Necessary Permissions
Starting with Jump Desktop Connect 6.10.33, when you first set up Jump Desktop Connect, a step-by-step assistant will help you grant these permissions. You can also bring up the assistant at a later time by opening up:
Jump Desktop Connect -> Settings -> Diagnostics -> Check macOS Permissions

Important note: Jump Desktop Connect is different from the Jump Desktop app. It has a different icon and different functionality: Jump Desktop Connect allows remote access TO the Mac it is installed on where as Jump Desktop lets you connect FROM a Mac to other machines.
