Starting with Jump Desktop 7.0 for iOS / Android and Jump Desktop 6.0 for Mac, we've introduced a new way to access your computer. We're calling it: Fluid Remote Desktop.
Fluid is our next generation remote desktop protocol designed for very high performance screen sharing. Fluid can share your screen at 60fps while using only 1/10th of the bandwidth when compared to traditional protocols like RDP and VNC. With Fluid you'll be able to manage your servers, work on your documents, watch movies and edit photos and even play games remotely. It's a work in progress and we'll be adding features regularly and quickly. Currently Fluid supports the following features:
- High Performance Desktop Sharing using a fraction of bandwidth of RDP/VNC.
- Audio streaming.
- End-to-end encryption: All communication between devices is fully encrypted (only the devices involved in the connection can decrypt the data).
- Adaptive Quality Control: Fluid will monitor your network connection and automatically adjust quality depending on the bandwidth available.
- Clipboard Sharing: Copy/paste stuff from/to the local system.
- Multi-monitor support: Select individual monitors or just a single monitor. We recommend selecting a single monitor for better performance.
- Fast user switching: Login as one user and then switch to another account without disconnecting. Logging into a machine after restart (i.e. no users logged in) is also supported.
- Local user accounts for authentication: No need for additional passwords, Fluid will use the account on the local computer to authenticate.
How to get started
To get started with Fluid make sure you're running Jump Desktop Connect 5.0 on the machine you're connecting to.
- On the machine you want to connect to, open up the Jump Desktop Connect app.
- Click the Settings icon on the top right hand corner.
- In the Advanced section enabled Fluid Remote Desktop.
- Make sure Jump Desktop Connect is Ready for Remote Access.
- Make sure you're running Jump Desktop 6.0+ for Mac or Jump Desktop 7.0+ for iOS/Android. When you open up Jump Desktop on your Mac or iOS/Android device, you should now see a new, light blue icon for your computer with "Fluid" in the name. Tap it to connect.
- You'll be prompted for Windows Credentials or Mac Credentials when you connect. Use any valid Windows or Mac account on the machine to connect. Accounts with blank passwords are not accepted - so make sure the user account you're logging in with has a password set.
FAQ
Q: Why can't I automatically set the remote resolution to match my local monitor / device like RDP?
A: At the moment Fluid works by matching the remote machine's resolution. You can manually switch the remote computer's resolution by going into the remote computer's Display properties. In the near future, we'll add support for automatically switching the remote resolution however, there is a fundamental difference between how RDP and Fluid work: Fluid is more like VNC: it is limited to the resolutions your remote computer and monitor supports (RDP doesn't have this limitation). For example if your local computer is running at 2560x1536, but your remote computer can't support more than 1920x1080 then you won't be able to switch to 2560x1536. That said - we're working on this. In our private tests we've connected to Windows 10 machines at full Retina resolution (2880x1800) by adding a custom resolution to the graphics adapter and guess what - it looks beautiful and performs quite well! More on this as we make further progress.
As always - any feedback is highly appreciated. Send feedback directly to support@jumpdesktop.com

Is Fluid always going to need a console session to work?
Is there any way to run the desktop app as a service? It'd be nice to have it launch automatically in the background when I boot the machine so I don't have to log in with RDP, launch the app, and then log in with fluid. Thanks!
@Gollapudi Thanks for reporting this. Can you please send us the Jump Desktop Connect logs? Open up Jump Desktop Connect and then click the settings icon on the top right. Then click Diagnostics -> Diagnostic Logs. Then attach the "JumpConnectDiagLogs.zip" to an email to support@jumpdesktop.com with what you just told us. We'll take a look.
I think I have all the right versions to have this work. However, when connecting from Mac to Windows 8.1, the fluid icon shows, but it shows a blank screen. I know this is beta ... so hopefully the feedback is helpful.
@Chris, we already submitted JD 6.0 to Apple on Sept 5th. Apple is still reviewing the update. We'll release is as soon as Apple is done.
What Port does Fluid use? How do can I set up a connection through Port-Forwarding?
@ch.ka: We've had a lot of interest for providing a cloudless version of Fluid and this is on our radar. I'm not sure if this is going to make it into 2.0, but this is definitely one of the things we plan to implement in the short to medium term. RemoteFX support for RDP: This is coming too - again, I unfortunately don't have a timeline, but it is planned and will be added.
@christopher: Fluid 2.0 will support file transfer via the clipboard. We just couldn't fit that many things into the first release of Fluid. That being said - you can still use VNC or RDP with Jump Desktop Connect: Open up Jump Desktop Connect and click the settings icons. Then click 'Advanced' and turn on RDP or VNC. Make sure you have RDP / VNC configured on the computer.
@jason: Internal work has started on Fluid 2.0. We don't have a public beta yet though. If you're interested shoot us an email: support@jumpdesktop.com
@chris: Alt+Tab works with Fluid when connecting to Windows (or even Macs). This is not a known issue. Can you please shoot us an email: support@jumpdesktop.com . Let us know which version of Windows you're connecting to and which device (iOS/Android/Mac/Windows), you're connecting FROM.
This looks great ... would love to try it out. However I'm still on Jump Desktop 5.0.2 for mac as that's the one in the Apple Store. How do we go about getting onto version 6 please?
LOL, you should clarify your clipboard sharing statement then, because copying files to the clipboard is a very common thing. I hope it comes soon, because the lack of common features we use to have with VNC is really killing me. I read in another post by support that VNC is supposed to still be working (although manually installed and activated), but I was unable to get jump to show an icon for it. I feel like my hands are tied behind my back compared to what we used to have.
File Sharing via clipboard isn't supported at the moment, however we're actively working on this for Fluid 2.0.
@Jump Desktop Support:
At the beginning of this thread it states: "Clipboard Sharing: Copy/paste stuff from/to the local system."
I am unable to get this to work with files (it does work with copied text). I have made sure both ends are running the latest version, and I have also tried enabling "Windows Shortcuts" just in case that made a difference (but it does not). Running Windows 10 on both ends.
How do I get this to work?
It seems unlikely now, however, is there any chance that a Wake-on-LAN feature might be coming anytime soon? And I'd like to check out the beta, I'll shoot support an email to that effect.
@Phillip: We're working on Fluid 2.0 and we'll try and add this. Join our beta testing group if you'e interested in testing it out once it's available. Email: support@jumpdesktop.com.
@Sebastian: Fluid doesn't open up any listening ports at the moment. You can't connect to it using a manual connection via an IP address - instead, you'll have to make sure Jump Desktop Connect is running on the remote machine and you're logged into your Jump Desktop account: https://jumpdesktop.com/go . Also - Fluid will automatically find it's way through your router - you don't need to configure additional networking. If you have trouble connecting over Fluid please let us know.
Turned fluid on because for some reason RDP is not available. Works great. Would love to see network sharing in the future as well.
It doesn't support remote audio yet, but we plan on adding it very soon.
Can fluid support remote audio?
Maybe you guys could release a display driver for windows that has the resolutions for common tablets?
I just used the generic VGA adapter with the fluid device (my ipad pro) as the third display and used the max resolution and it was close (2560x1536) but 2880x1800 wasn't available as a mode... its better than nothing, but a new device driver with that mode available would be a good start, right?
Fluid currently will not allow you to login with user accounts that don't have a password set - this is a security measure. We're not going to change that, though we will add device-specific logins in the near future (i..e you'll be able to log in without a password once you pair a device with Fluid).
In the meantime, here are a couple of options to try out:
I don't have a password set for my windows 10 machine, I'm the only user, how can I connect via fluid to my machine from android ,Help?
Wow, iOS to Windows is now blazing flast with Fluid...Thank You!
Just an update. We're starting public beta testing of Jump Desktop Connect 5.0 which adds support for Fluid for Mac. Read the announcement here: https://support.jumpdesktop.com/entries/109741706-Jump-Desktop-Connect-5-0-Beta-with-support-for-Mac-Fluid
@Rob: We just released Jump Desktop PC Viewer 7.0.3 Beta that fixes the issue you're hitting. Can you please try downloading it from here: https://jumpdesktop.com/downloads/jdwin
@Matt: We're planning on expanding clipboard support in Fluid so that you can drag and drop files to/from the remote machine. Would this work for you?
@MichaelSzebenyi Jump Desktop Connect runs as a service by default and you should be able to log in via Fluid and RDP after a fresh boot when no users are logged in. If Fluid isn't working after boot let us know by emailing support@jumpdesktop.com and let them know which version of Windows you're using.
